Direct Claim Settlement in the event of damage to cars covered by third-party insurance

You can already make all kinds of damage claims to Aon. This applies to household contents and building insurance, but also to the all-risk coverage of car insurance. This was not yet the case with third-party liability coverage and third-party+ limited car damage coverage: any material damage to your own vehicle for which someone else was liable had to be recovered from the other party's insurer.

This is now changing. Has someone else caused material damage to your car and you do not have all-risk coverage? Then from now on, you can submit a damage claim to Aon and we will be happy to help you with the settlement.

This offers a number of benefits

If you make use of the Direct Claim Settlement scheme, you can enjoy a number of benefits:

  • You no longer have to find out who the other person is insured with or to speak to the party liable for the damage. We will deal with this on your behalf.
  • You do not have to wait for your claim to be paid. The damage costs will be determined and paid out to you (in whole or in part) before we recover that amount from the insurer of the party liable

We also have a broad network of car repair companies available, where you can benefit from:

  • the right to free replacement transport during the repair period.
  • a warranty on the repair work carried out.
  • the direct settlement of any damage (including payment) with the repair company. If it turns out that your car is damaged beyond repair (we call this a total loss), the repairer will see to it that the remains are sold to a buyer.

Find a repair company in your area

After reviewing the claim form signed by both parties, your claims handler will let you know whether you can use our damage repair network. You will find car repair companies in this list Schadeherstellersoverzicht.

The choice is yours

You are under no obligation to use this service. You can also choose to make a damage claim to legal expenses insurance if you have such a policy. Or you can choose to recover any damage costs yourself from the insurer of the party liable.

When can you make a claim using Direct Claim Settlement?

As soon as you submit your claim to Aon, the claims handlers will determine who is liable and whether the claim qualifies for the Direct Claim Settlement scheme, based on a fully completed claim form signed by both parties. We have prepared two lists for you: one with the conditions under which we can settle the claim for you directly and the second with the circumstances under which we cannot settle the claim.

When can you use Direct Claim Settlement?

  • When there has been a collision between your passenger car and another motor vehicle and
  • you have insured your passenger car for third-party or third-party limited car damage and
  • you have a claim form signed by both parties and
  • you are not liable for the collision. The driver of the other vehicle is wholly or partly liable for the collision and
  • both your passenger car and the other vehicle have a Dutch registration number registered with the Rijksdienst Wegverkeer (RDW or National Road Traffic Service).

When is it not possible to use Direct Claim Settlement?

  • When the claim involves injury or death.
  • When the party liable is unknown or uninsured.
  • When liability has not been established in advance.
  • When the passenger car or other vehicle has a foreign registration number.
  • When there is no valid third-party insurance. e.g. Because coverage was suspended due to non-payment of premium or if there is a permitted third-party exclusion.
  • When multiple parties were involved in the collision. e.g. In a motorway pile-up.
  • When the vehicle which hit you is covered by an insurer not affiliated with the Direct Claim Settlement scheme.
